French Toast with Caramelized Bananas and Cheese

Hey everyone, Natasha here! Today, I’m excited to share a delightful twist on a breakfast classic: French Toast with Caramelized Bananas and Cheese. This recipe is perfect for those who love a mix of sweet and savory flavors. 🍞🍌🧀

Ingredients:

For the French Toast:

  • 4 slices of thick bread (brioche or challah works great)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp butter (for cooking)
  • 4 slices of cheese (Gruyère or Swiss)

For the Caramelized Bananas:

  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the French Toast Batter

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.

Step 2: Cook the French Toast

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tbsp of butter.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated.
  3. Place the dipped bread slices onto the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on top of each bread slice and let it melt slightly.

Step 3: Caramelize the Bananas

  1. In a separate pan, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to bubble.
  3. Add the banana slices and cook until they are soft and caramelized, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4: Assemble and Serve

  1. Place the cheese-topped French toast slices on a plate.
  2. Spoon the caramelized bananas over the top.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy this sweet and savory treat!
